Our own self grown and collected seed here at Crawford Road.
A striking beauty with practical charm, Hungarian Breadseed Poppy is grown as much for its ornamental seed pods as for its soft, crepe-paper blooms in shades of lavender-pink to pale mauve. These poppies produce large, decorative seed heads packed with edible blue-grey poppy seeds—perfect for baking, sowing, or drying. In the garden, they self-sow easily and bring wild, romantic movement to early summer plantings.
Best for: Edible seed harvest, dried pods, early summer colour and texture.
Approx 100 seeds per packet

| Sowing Tips |
Direct sow recommended – poppies dislike transplanting. Best sown in autumn (March–May) for early blooms, or late winter/early spring (July–August). Surface sow – do not cover seeds, as they need light to germinate. Sow thinly and do not overwater while germinating. Thin seedlings early to avoid overcrowding. |
| Growing Tips |
Prefers full sun and free-draining soil – avoid overly rich soil, which reduces flower and seed production. Very drought tolerant once established. Harvest seed heads once they turn pale and rattle slightly when shaken. Leave a few to self-sow if you’d like naturalised drifts in the garden. Prolific self-seeder. Beautiful both fresh and dried. |
